ProxGrowth is a concept within which the Growth Model fits. ProxGrowth could become a new Tool in the Basics. This concept is in development.

Definition

To ProxGrow is to grow in the proximity through:

a basic ability to relate, and

a language for relating, combined with

viable alternatives for relating,

to coordinate and encourage relating.

Ability to Relate
An ability to relate is largely an ability to communicate and an ability to take action. Communication allows information to pass back and forth. Action uses the information.

Language for Relating
A language for relating is some kind of system for communicating which facilitates information flow.

Viable Alternatives for Relating
Having viable alternatives for relating is sometimes more difficult than it sounds. Why? Because situations can be complex, ambiguous, many-layered, many-dimensional, and contradictory. Having viable alternatives is to recognize and flexibly provide options for complex, ambiguous and contradictory cases as well as simple ones.

Coordinate and Encourage Relating
To coordinate and encourage relating is a kind of recursive idea, a bootstrapping idea. The first three points lead to the fourth, which leads back to the first three points, which lead to the fourth, and so on. With an ability to relate, a language for relating, and viable alternatives for relating, we can create ways to coordinate and encourage relating. This in turn can further our ability to relate, our language, and our viable alternatives, which can in turn further our coordination and encouragement of relating, and so on.

Note: The key to the above cycle not becoming a positive feedback loop is having viable alternatives of the kind mentioned, which are able to recognize and flexibly provide options for complex, ambiguous and contradictory cases as well as simple ones.

The Growth Model and ProxGrowth

Here we will show how parts of the Growth Model fit into the concept of ProxGrowth. Put another way, the Growth Model is an instance of ProxGrowth.

Yet the Growth Model can be generalized, and is perhaps one good way to use the ProxGrowth concept. For each of the four processes (RelatePoint, ProxMonitor, Vadi Agreements, and ProxRewards) of the Growth Model, consider the more generalized aspects of each. When you do, you can see how the Growth Model can be adopted and adapted for a variety of projects and situations, and for a variety of individuals, groups and organizations.

How to read the explanation below: In the comparison below, each ProxGrowth definition line is followed by an italicized line explaining the corresponding Growth Model processes or ProxThink elements.
